Robert J. Kemp

President & CEO

What do you enjoy most about being a team member of Kemp Financial Management?

Our clients are truly great, inspirational people. I feel blessed every day to work with them and help them achieve their goals. Our team members are spectacular as well. It really inspires and energizes me to be around so many exceptional people.

Why do you do what you do?

I enjoy solving problems and breaking down complex situations into clear, simple solutions that will help unclutter my clients’ lives.

What professional achievement are you most proud of and why?

I co-authored a book on investing in 1998, Kemp & Cooke on Asset Class Investing, and the principles and values I detailed in the book are as true today as they were then, especially after major market events such as the dot.com crash and the Great Recession. It was such a helpful and rewarding exercise to put my beliefs in writing and then stick to them through turbulent times, even when it was tempting to reassess, and ultimately watch the long-term benefits come to pass.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

I like to ask highly-successful people if they were to do one thing differently, what would it be? The most common answer that I receive has been “I wish I spent more time with my children.” This is something that I heard early on in my career  which has always been in the forefront of my mind in raising our children.

If you could spend the day with anyone, who would it be and what would you like to learn?

Bono of U2. His music composition, lyrics, political relevance and philanthropic interests have always intrigued me. His ability to connect with world leaders to ordinary people while being  relevant during changing times.

What is your favorite place in the world and why?

Lake Arrowhead, California. Even though it is 90 minutes away, I can never get enough time in the mountains, with the fresh air, slower pace, enjoying the sunshine, rain or snow. The majesty of the mountains along with the fresh water always rejuvenates my mind.

What do you enjoy most about being a team member of Kemp Financial Management?

I enjoy who I work with and our work environment. It’s friendly and comfortable. I enjoy our clients. They are friendly and enjoying life. It’s nice to be a part of their lives. And I really like helping people.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice has been and remains to always look to the Lord and His word for guidance.

When you are not at the office, you can often be found doing what?

Serving at my church. I’m involved with our Women’s Ministry and serve with my Husband in the Couples Ministry and Deaf Ministry. When we’re not there, we’re hanging out with our family and friends.

What is your most treasured memory?

Spending vacations with my Grandparents and playing games with my family when I was a kid. There are also countless moments with my son, from playing games to quiet conversations. Times with my family are my most treasured moments.

What would you be doing if you weren’t working for KFM?

I’ve always thought Interior design would be fun to do. I love decorating and making things beautiful as well as functional.

What do you enjoy most about being a team member of Kemp Financial Management?

Getting to know our clients. I love learning about other people’s lives and hearing about the journeys they have taken to get where they are today. It really feels good to help others.

When you are not at the office, you can often be found doing what?

Sitting in a movie theater. I love movies and I see as many as I can find time for.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and take a look around once in a while, you could miss it,” from Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, my favorite movie. It always reminds me to appreciate the things in life (big and small) that are happening right now.

For what in life do you feel most grateful?

I feel most grateful for my large family. I am the 6th of 8 children in my family, and I feel very fortunate to have them all in my life. They have made growing up very fun and we always enjoy getting together for birthdays and holidays.

What is your favorite place in the world and why?

My favorite place in the world is Mammoth Mountain. I have formed many great memories there. I have gone there almost every winter since 1999. My birthday is right after Christmas, so I have spent many birthdays on the slopes of Mammoth and taking runs from 11,053 feet on my snowboard.
